PROJECT PROPOSAL AND VALUES
My name is Ella Lila Edwina Sattin. My stage name is Ella Lila. What you are about to read is my WB10 Project Proposal. Thank you for taking the time to read it.
The idea for my final major project is to collate and create lots of music and artwork content of which I showcase on my socials and my artist website, ellalila.com. The website will include my contact details, my music, my graphic design content/artwork and eventually my merch and percussive guitar tutorials. I came to this idea because I felt that as I currently have no music or artwork released, I should to utilise the educational services and facilities currently available to me whilst at university in order to gain the skills and professional standards I will need to meet after university. This project idea also suits me because enables me to prepare a remote way to monetise my services and my products whilst I travel and pursue my other income strategies/professions such as fire spinning, bartending, venue management and property development.
I know that people will buy my products and services because the unique niches that I am working in will be thoroughly investigated and targeted toward the appropriate audiences. Moreover I believe that the multiple niches I am working in are interchangeable with each other. For example my hobby of fire spinning can go along with my electronic musical styles if I were to create fire performance videos. For me, my bartending hobby is interchangeable with travelling as I am taking an online EBS course (European School of Bartending) that once completed, allows me to work at any Club Med across the globe which in turn increases more incentive to travel.
The reason that I think I am the right person for this business idea is because I am fortunate enough to be able to fund it through my current income stream of property development. This has allowed me the freedom to be an artist who does not need to perform live but rather provide other services such as graphic design commission work and selling my own merch and tutorials and music. The plan for my final major project is to spend the first half of third year planning and preparing and the second half preparing, releasing and analysing. In more detail this means that I will spend the first four months from September to December planning what type of music to create and release, what artwork to go with that music and other surrounding issues such as financial forecasts, budgets, marketing strategies and overall branding image. The last four months of the project from January to April will be spent finalising the music and artwork to be released, releasing it, analysing it and documenting it all into my artist website.
Your customers
My target demographic for my Lofi music will be people in any type of education who needs music to study or relax to. Especially people who are using music therapy because my Lofi music is very gentle and appropriate for that industry. Other demographics I will target will be those in the creative industry as I can provide them with graphic design services such as Lofi illustrations and eventually small looped animations for the album artwork. Another niche I am targeting will be guitar players who would like to play the percussive guitar style I play.
Your competitors
My competitors are small Lofi artists such as wunche, raimu and Lofi girl however also freelance graphic designers and content creators as I am also showcasing my graphic design and content creation skills. Finally I would like to mention that other YouTube vloggers who travel and write music will be my competition but also most likely my frame of reference when I come to release my travel vlogs. A good example of both a YouTube vlogger and content creator (photographer) is Simeon baker. He is also a percussive guitarist and I consider him to be one of my main competitors as he draws many similarities ti myself.
The reason why my customers will buy my Lofi, electronic music styles may be due to covid19 encouraging a demand for study music for when people are working from home. Secondly, my customers and other artists will buy into my graphic design services because the animations and videos are said to be the leading format marketing at the moment.
Your pricing / fees
My music will be mostly free as I can not monetise it enough starting out as an artist to be able to price is as high as my competitors. However looped Lofi animation designs are ranging from £20-£80 per illustration and animation meaning I will most likely charge a starting fee of £30 for illustration and £40 for added animation. My merch prices will be based off of competitors similar to myself. I plan to sell bandanas to begin with and the pricing will be fairly low; most likely starting at £10 per bandana. Finally my guitar tutorials will be a £20 one-time purchase opposed to a subscription based price. The reason behind this is that the output of content for these tutorials will not be consistent enough for my customers to pay a subscription.
I will include a bundle of 3 bandanas for £15 for my merch to begin with, free illustration/animation services in exchange for a like comment and share twice a year as well as a half price period on my guitar tutorials once a year during Black Friday.
Health and Safety
As a lot of my work is solo work based off of my laptop or screen of some sort I bear in mind the safety for my vision and will employ timers set to change visual settings that accommodation visual concerns. Also when dealing with electronics in my music and with my admin and designs I need to be aware of electrical and fire concerns.
Team, Tech and Operations
Personnel involved will be musicians, producers, marketing specialists, educators, artists, bands and DJs. Considerations toward how this business will operate will be based on how much help I need depending on the project. If I am releasing a song that needs instruments I can’t play for example, I could reach out to different musicians to organise rehearsal and a recording. Or in another case if I were to release an album over a single I would need more help in the marketing process. The way in which I see being able to maintain this across years will be by consistently analysing the requirements for each specific project and tailoring the personnel and operation to each project situationally.
Finances BIG
For this project I do not need financial help to start the company nor will it be limited to my current cash flow due to the income I get from my property development company, TPD (Tiles Property Development). Some parts of my business are limited to season, weather, events or holidays such as merch and music however my graphic design/ album artwork services will be available all year round. The first expenses will be sent to marketing professionals and studio recording time for collaborators. Moreover merch manufactures and distributors as well as the subscription fees to become an artists such as distrokid and PRS and MCRS.
